Substitute!
22 of the faithful turned out for what was The Toon’s 2,500th competitive game at SJP and contributed to a respectable crowd of over 30,000 for a tie that was effectively won in Latvia in the first leg.

On the day when the GCSE results came out the Carrville Mags youth couldn’t work out where in the world Latvia was.
‘I got a U for Geography’
Alan, the driver entertained the troops with The Rock n Roll Swindle on the CD player as we left The Sporties. We licked our lips at the prospect of a new £10 million striker and entertained ourselves by revelling in the desperate plight of the makems.

The Casino was given the cold shoulder and we resisted the temptation of The Cosmic as we headed for The Irish Centre.
Who Killed Bambi? C’mon Everybody
Chance after chance went begging as we dominated the game and Harper hardly touched the ball. Luque, Duff, Emre, Carr, Parker and Zog all squandered decent chances, however Milner was the closest with a freekick that came back off the bar. N’Zogbia had a very decent game and Duff caught the eye again.

Their ONE supporter (with two banners) seemed to enjoy himself as The Leazers Ultras sang ‘One fan, you’ve only got one fan’ and ‘Sit down shut up’ in his direction. Perhaps his banner would have been more appropriate had it read – Lad From Riga, No One Likes Me, I Don’t Care.
Silly Thing
Post match comments……

‘The game was over after the first leg’
‘We couldn’t hit a barn door tonight’
‘We did everything but score’
‘They never looked like scoring’
‘They were shit’…………

may all have been true but the fact is we’re now in the UEFA Cup proper and that’ll do for me. We returned home to Friggin’ in the Riggin and tried to remember the last time we didn’t use any of our substitutes.
