|Now 3 In A Row!|
Today's visit to the East End of London resulted in our 3rd defeat in a row.
A combination of bad luck and comical defending was to blame for all 3 goals conceded in this 3-1 defeat.
United conceded after only 8 mins. Cole passed the ball forward to Di Michele and the Italian shot from the edge of the box. Unluckily for The Toon a double deflection off the back-pedalling Taylor and Edgar saw the ball float over Given's head into the unguarded goal. 1-0 to The Hammers. A second goal followed on 37 mins when Di Michele scored. Both Taylor and Coloccini were perplexed by his trickery and the on-loan Torino striker rifled it home. Etherington made it three on 53 mins after more shocking defending. Owen scored a conciliation goal on 67 mins when he curled Cacapa's through ball into the net.
There were too many woeful individual performances today and it's becoming more obvious by the game that Nicky Butt is no longer a Premiership player. Former Toon player Parker (before he was substituted) was the best midfield player on show.
Last September Hughton was caretaker-manager of a Spurs side at the wrong end of the table after an uncomfortable early-season parting of the ways with their popular manager. 12 months on he will lead a Toon side into a cup tie against Spurs with a greater sense of crisis hanging over him.
