|"Too Much On!"|
Can't say I really dislike Blackburn, there's nothing really to dislike about them. Does anyone really hate Blackburn apart from Burnley fans?
Truth is I've always thought of Blackburn as a good place to visit, from the early Football Special days, Student Railcard and Persil trips, mini bus journeys followed by nights in the Golden Cup, the Saha cup game and the more recent Boxing Day outing. Arrrgh, the good old days!!
That said I would like to see an annual ritual on April 8th in which Graham Fenton (I really hate him!) has each toe nail ripped off with a rusty pair of pliers to remind him of what a twad he is. Calls himself a Geordie? I'd say he is still partly to blame for the plight of the club at the moment! I firmly believe that his 2 goals in the last 4 minutes that bleak Thursday night towards the end of the 95-96 season was a defining moment in the history of Newcastle United. Had we won that game 1-0 with Batty's goal, we'd have won the title that year and I'm certain we'd have gone from strength to strength! I'll never forget that night; yes there were still another 5 games of the season remaining but that Blackburn game was the turning point. I distinctly remember thinking after that particular game at Ewood that that was it; the title was going to Manure.
The Game today was all about the quality of balls into the box. Blackburn scored from 2 excellent crosses while Geremi's distribution was diabolical once again. Why can't he clear the first man? Rovers first goal came on 31 mins when a perfectly execute cross which was headed in by Samba, Taylor's attempts to prevent the header were pathetic. Then 10 mins later it was Coloccini's turn to drop a clanger. His attempt at defending Emerton's inch perfect cross was equally as bad as Taylor's for the first goal. Santa Cruz making it 2-0. Owen clawed one back from the penalty spot on 51 mins after he'd been felled by Nelsen and for a scary moment it looked like Geremi was going to take it as he spotted the ball. This prompted a 10 minute serge from The Toon as we had our best spell of the game, unfortunately we couldn't find an equaliser.
So that's 5 defeats in a row. Hughton said in his programme notes, 'One thing we know for certain is that at some stage we will get a win, and that will lift our confidence.' We must win one before 25th October.
BTW the title is reference to one of the feeble excuses provided by some Carrvillians as to why they couldn't attend today's game.
a. "I've got too much on"
b. "I'm tiling the bathroom"
c. "I think I could be working"
The worst excuses in the world?
Who do you think was responsible for these feeble excuses? Answers on the message board please.
